Last year, I was asked to convert plastic bags in coral reefs, sea ornaments and creatures… WHAT?! I’ve never crocheted with plastic yarn before… crazy, how the hell is that possible?

But then I found some videos on the Internet where it is shown how to make plarn (plastic & yarn).

“The bags are cut horizontally into loops, the loops are bunched into yarn, and the yarn is crocheted.” - that’s it! And now I’m crocheting with all my plarn at home, amazing!!!

As we already know, plastic causes huge problems for our environment and we are drowning in it!

Now, in 2019, our plastic project "MEER PLASTIK" was started.

In cooporation with students from the University for Television and Film in Munich - HFF München - and KulturVERSTRICKUNGEN we crocheted a plastic sea installation, mainly from plastic bags.

Here some finished plarn creations.

I am so incredibly excited to finally share about this project! The organisers of MEER PLASTIK gave me the freedom to design and crochet any sea plastic creation that I wanted!

And now I am so happy to see my very first plarn jellyfish at the centre of this campaign.

The opening of „MEER PLASTIK“ took place in Munich on July 10, 2019.

Until then, there was still quite a bit of #plarn work for me.

Here some pics from our kickoff on April 10, 2019.

And what a honour for me that my amigurumi crab I crocheted with VHS tape was featured on TV!!!

On May 16, 2019 the Haus der Kunst, a non-collecting public museum and a key global center for contemporary art in Munich, joined our MeerPlastik project, too!

They has invited us to crochet together with plarn and to visit their El Anatsui’s exhibition “Triumphant Scale”.

I'm so happy to share all that beautiful pics from our #plarn project there!!!

Look at all the toppers and plarn creatures we already made.

And finally but not least here some pictures from our plarn party in Munich on July 10, 2019!!!

You'll find more information, pics and videos using the hashtag #MeerPlastik on Facebook.

2020, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by my employer, an internationally active German service company, about my voluntary crochet activities beside my work.

In the new issue of the staff magazine I also told about our #noplastic campaign.

I’m super delighted to have such a beautiful spread in this magazine. Thank you so much - meeCrochet
