Square Hole Vest
On my recent trip to Cologne for the trade fair h+h 2018 I got a lot of
new yarn from Katia. One special yarn is this incredible recycled one
in off-white with 74% Organic Cotton and 26% Recycled Polyester.
I was so excited to work with this recycled yarn as I knew any project
using this yarn would be very quick and I knew immediately that I
wanted to use this yarn for my new fringe vest I designed some time
ago.
I pulled out my 5 mm hook and started off.

Step 1 - material

Step 2 - rectangle
This is what you need:
- 3 skeins of recycled yarn à 50 g by Katia
- crochet hook 5 mm
- scissors
- measuring tape
- yarn needle
Please note: the pattern is written in size S.
Let’s start!

Step 3 - arm holes

Step 3 - arm holes
Chain 102 +3, chain 4
R1: in 6th chain from hook, treble crochet in next stitch, *ch 3, sk 3, treble crochets in next 3 stitches*, repeat from * to *, ch1, turn
R2: *single crochets around next 3 stitches, ch 3, sk 3*, repeat from * to *, ch 4, turn
R3: treble crochet in 6th stitch from hook, treble crochet in next stitch, *ch 3, sk 3, treble crochets in next 3 stitches*, repeat from * to *, ch 1, turn
R 4-17: repeat rows 2 and 3

Step 4 - fringe
R18: repeat row 2. After reach the 15th stitch, ch 27, skip 27 stitches, single crochet in next and then continue row 2 all the way to the end, ch 4, turn
R19: repeat row 3
R20-41: repeat rows 2 and 3
For the second arm hole:
R42: repeat R18
R43-R60: repeat row 2 and 3
Fasten off and weave the ends.
The rectangle now is approx. 76 cm x 53 cm.
Now, it was time to work on the fringe!
The best way to get even strands of yarn to make fringe is to wrap your yarn around a solid book.
I prepared my fringe with strands of yarn in a length of 66 cm.
To add the fringe, you insert your crochet hook into each space from the lower edge of the vest as shown here:
You fold your fringe in half to get it ready. Then you grab the loop/folded end of the fringe with your crochet hook and pull it through. Next you pull the two loose ends through the loop and pull downwards.
One piece of fringe is complete after you have pulled tight! Continue doing the next pieces of fringe.
For each space I made 4 pieces of fringe.
The fringe is now complete!

And this is how my vest
looked with the fringe and
my ultraleather tag attached!

I hope you enjoyed reading this step-by-step making of my Square Hole Vest.
Here I show you how this vest looks like crocheted with a beautiful tape yarn in blue!
